Wine Refrigerators
Wine refrigerators are an excellent solution foe someone who does not have a cellar or basement, or an appropriate closet that they can devote to wine. They are typically best used by people who wish to store more than a few bottles of wine that will be consumed in the near future.
Wine refrigerators will store wine on its side in a temperature controlled environment that is suitable for long term storage of wine. The temperature may be set for red wine or white wine. Some wine refrigerators come with two temperature zones, one for each type of wine.
Wine refrigerators may be found in many different sizes that range from 6 or 12 bottle countertop models, to free standing models that may store 48 to 60 bottles of wine, to much larger units capable of storing hundreds of bottles of wine.
There are many different "features" to various wine refrigerators that may or may not appeal to you, including:
- Glass doors vs. solid doors. Glass doors are nice since they allow you to look at the wine without opening the door.
- Door locks. Door locks may be a nice feature if you are storing very valuable wine or wish to insure that under-age individuals are not able to get the wine.
- Slide out shelves. Slide out shelves make it easier to view and remove wine from the wine refrigerator.
- Metal shelving vs. wood shelving. Both work fine, wood tends to be more appropriate if presentation is important.
- Front venting. Front venting wine refrigerators are ideal if you wish the wine refrigerator to be installed into the kitchen cabinets like other appliances.
- Precise digital temperature controls. Some wine refrigerators are build with precise digital controls that allow you to set the exact temperature for wine storage.
