Serving Wine
Serving wine should not be a big deal. At its most basic level, serving wine is simply the process of opening a bottle of wine and pouring it into a glass. There are, however, a few things that can help with the enjoyment and appreciation of the wine being served. In this section we provide a few suggestions that may make the wine drinking experience more pleasant, enjoyable, and memorable.
The things that can impact the wine drinking experience include:
- The wine serving temperature
- The choice of wine glass
- How you open the bottle of wine (nothing like broken cork in the wine to detract from the experience)
- Whether or not to decant the wine
- How you pour the wine
None of this should be obsessed over. These are merely some suggestions borne out by experience. Notice that above we said "may make the wine drinking experience more pleasant". The key word there is the word "may". Wine appreciation is an intensely personal undertaking. It is really what you do that helps you to enjoy wine. If you do something "out of the ordinary" that helps you to enjoy wine more then by all means do it.
