Wyoming Wine at a Glance
|
There are over 20 vineyards but only 2 wineries located in the State of Wyoming. The largest of the 2 wineries is Table Mountain Vineyards with 10 acres of vineyards and a production of around 3,000 gallons of wine.
There are currently no American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) in Wyoming.
As you might expect of a state with a harsh winter climate, most wines produced are either made from fruit other than grapes such as apricots, currants, chokecherries, nanking cherries, peaches, plums, pumpkins, and raspberries. Those wines that are made from grapes are made from hardy hybrid grapes such as Elvira, Frontenac, Frontenac Gris, Marcheal Foch, Marquette, and Valiant. Irvin Cellar Winery makes a wine from Merlot grapes.
