Vermont Wine at a Glance
|
As one might imagine, Vermont wineries who make wine from grapes tend to focus on cold weather hardy grapes such as Frontenac, Marquette, St. Croix; , LaCrescent, and Traminette. Some do make wine from more traditional grapes such as Riesling. Mead, hard cider, and fruit-based wines are also common.
Vermont has no federally designated American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), thus all wine bottled in Vermont would carry a Vermont appellation.
As of 2009, there are over 15 wineries producing hard cider, fruit-based wine, grape-based wine, and mead.
