New Jersey has one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in the United States - the Renault Winery. Needless to say.
New Jersey has 3 federally designated American Viticultural Areas (AVAs):
- Central Delaware Valley (southeastern New Jersey & Pennsylvania) - this is New Jersey's oldest AVA (1984, amended in 1987)
- Outer Coastal Plain in southeastern New Jersey - this is New Jersey's newest AVA (2007)
- Warren Hills, Warren County
As of 2010, there are 36 wineries producing wine in the State of New Jersey from a very wide variety of grapes. New Jersey is among the top 25 wine states from the standpoint of the number of wineries.
