I was reading a post on rosé wine (“The best American rosé“) in the Dr. Vino’s Wine Blog and realized that I cannot remember the last time I saw a rosé wine other than White Zinfandel on the shelf of my local wine shop (a very well stocked wine shop – Julios Liquors in Westborough, MA).
So I did a little non-scientific experiment. I walked all of the wine aisles to see how many rosé wines I could find (again, other than White Zinfandel). The result – 11.
This got me to wondering, why so few. I have had some really excellent rosés in my time so why so few. My guess is that it is the lingering hangover from too many overly sweet White Zin’s giving the whole category a bad name. I’d be interested in anyone else’s insight on the category of rosé wine.
