The Blue Canoe Waterfront Grill – Excellent Restaurant and the Wine List is Your Own

The wine list is your own? Yes, in this case it is. A little background is in order. The Blue Canoe Waterfront Grill is located in Vineyard Haven (officially named Tisbury) on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. Tisbury, as are most of the Island’s 6 towns, is still living in prohibition and is a dry town. So that means you get to bring your own wine. So quite literally, the wine list is your own…

Now onto the restaurant itself. The Blue Canoe is new this year (2009) and is a welcome addition the the Vineyard Haven restaurant scene. It is located on the water at 52 Beach Road at what used to be the location of the Mediterranean Restaurant, which moved to Oak Bluffs.

The Blue Canoe Grill has several things going for it:

  • Affordable food, which is hard to find on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. They have many relatively inexpensive entrees, and a nice selection of sandwiches for those looking to really save money. Entrees range from $22 to $34 (Filet Mignon). The sandwiches are $12 to $20 for the lobster roll.
  • Delicious food. My wife had the fresh fish sandwich and I had the lemon, herb, and garlic seasoned half rotisserie chicken. Both meals were excellent.
  • An excellent view. The restaurant is right on the water overlooking Vineyard Haven Harbor. You can sit and eat dinner while watching the sun set over the sail boats.

I will be going back and highly recomend this new restaurant. I will also be selecting the wine list for may meals…

I agree! Had a wonderful meal, atmosphere is excellent, service was very good. Best ahi tuna I have had in a long time. Definetley a must if you are on the vineyard.

Just had the pleasure of dining at the Blue Canoe on May 21st with my family. The atmosphere was great with a fantastic waterfront site offering postcard perfect harbor views.

The staff was friendly and attentive.

The pricing was very reasonable, especially by Martha’s Vineyard standards.

The food was outstanding. I am looking forward to going back and recommend to all.

The Blue Canoe now serves beer and wine. You can no longer BYOB to the Blue Canoe.
