The oldest winery in Massachusetts, Chicama Vineyards on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard, has been sold to new owners. Chicama was founded n 1971 by Catherine and George Mathiesen and produced wines based on Chardonnay, Shiraz, Vioginier, and other grapes varieties.
According to the message on the winery’s answering machine, the winery and tasting room will be closed for the summer of 2008 while it is transitioned to the new ownership. The wines will continue to be available in island package stores and plans are for the winery and tasting room to reopen in the fall of 2008.
